NanoVNA Antenna Analyzer

OVERVIEW

Using the NanoVNA (Vector Network Analyzer) for antenna analysis and optimization. This affordable test instrument has revolutionized how amateur radio operators tune and analyze antennas.

ABOUT VNA

A Vector Network Analyzer measures the complex impedance of antennas and RF networks, providing both magnitude and phase information. This allows for precise antenna tuning and troubleshooting that wasn't previously possible with simple SWR meters.

The NanoVNA is an open-source, low-cost VNA that covers frequencies from about 50 kHz to 900 MHz (or higher with newer versions), making it suitable for most amateur radio applications.

CAPABILITIES

  • SWR and return loss measurements
  • Smith chart display for impedance matching
  • Frequency sweep for bandwidth analysis
  • Cable loss and length measurements
  • Filter response analysis
  • Duplexer tuning and verification

APPLICATIONS

The NanoVNA has been invaluable for optimizing antenna systems, tuning matching networks, and verifying duplexer performance for repeater projects. Its portability makes it easy to take measurements in the field during antenna installations.
